Gives a broad overview. My professor chose this as it was 200+ pages over the previous textbook that was 600+ pages.

The chapters are usually less than 20 pages each, quick to read, and it is pretty current.

I purchased this book for a college class and so far I like the book it's thin, the chapters are of a short but decent length. The first chapter if you already know a lot about computers is kind of boring, but other than that great book. Book arrived in better condition than expected.

iOS as a music-making platform has matured a lot over the past few years, and iPads especially are becoming more commonplace in studios and live setups. The public perception has gone from seeing iOS devices as nothing but toys, music-wise, to headlines on the cover of major music publications saying, "Take iOS Seriously". For experimental musicians, iOS music is the cutting edge, the frontier to be explored. One of my goals for Drone, Glitch and Noise is to raise awareness of that fact to those experimental musicians who may not be aware of the capabilities of these apps and devices. On the flip-side, I hope to make existing iPad and iPhone users aware that they're carrying around a serious music studio. Of course, I also want to offer a valuable resource for existing iOS musicians by providing an introduction to experimental music, and by presenting apps they may not know about, or at least new ways to use the apps they already own. The acceptance and feedback so far has been good, so hopefully the book is proving helpful to folks.

A good resource

The iPad has turned into a serious music making tool, but the options available can be bewildering. This book is a quick read, but gives a high level overview of what's available, and how things work. If you're going to get serious about music on iOS, for about the price of one (inexpensive) app, you can get a road map for the area.

Hope in a hopeless situation

To say this is just another book about physical and sexual abuse would be a gigantic understatement. Mr. Clemenger recounts very vividly the absolute horrors and inhumane treatment he endured at the hands of the Christian Brothers. It's almost unbelievable the horrific abuse that was a daily way of life at the Industrial School, but to disbelieve would destroy the whole purpose of the book. Michael faced doubt and disbelief at every turn when he tried to speak out of how horrible it really was.

His aspiration to be a priest was squashed (ironically by a priest), his aspiration to be a doctor was squashed even before medical school entrance, his own mother, who early in his young life abandoned him, later was responsible for his imprisonment, and squashed any chance for a "normal" biological family. In spite of set backs at every turn, and a loss of faith that there was a God overseeing all this agony, he still had dreams. Because of so many disappointments, he seemed to genuinely appreciate and treasure even more the kindnesses that did come his way: from the dear lady who ran the boarding house and others, to his wife, who he described as "saving his life."

Such abuse is hard to read about, but reading this book is easy. Clear and well written, with additional facts and information at the conclusion of the story.
