Good Undergraduate Textbook for an introductory public international law course

As an instructor using the book for the first time to teach an undergraduate course, I was generally pleased with the scope and content, although I supplemented many chapters with updates in key areas given that much of the 2012 edition was written four or more years ago. As with most basic textbooks covering a broad range of subject matter some parts provide a greater in-depth analysis than others. The use of one page case summaries is a good approach for students who have no legal training but results in some situations where the information provided is incomplete. Although I have a hard copy I also "rented" the Kindle edition so I could use it on my iPad, with the understanding that I could choose to "purchase" that edition for an additional payment later in the year. Unfortunately, Pearson discontinued the Kindle edition and in doing so deprived me of being able to preserve my highlighting and comments. I plan to the extent possible to avoid purchasing or recommending Pearson textbooks in the future.

Great Case studies / Broad Key figures

The book covers all most all aspects of IL, from the Law of Stateless persons, to the law of the sea, to special situations, this book really hit on broad key concepts. As a non-pol-sci major, the book was a great introduction to the field.

The book did however lack key figures, or placed a under emphasis the roles played by these persons in major points of historical law. (most likely edited for space)

The book was shaped funny, but as you use it more you become used to it.

The book does a great job in highlighting pivotal points in IL, and the cases that went along with them.

The flow of the book was great, but at points did drag on points for too long, aka EEZ (Exclusive Econ Zone), and skipped almost entirely on others, such as trafficking in persons.

Overall, good intro book.

Assiduously researched documentation of changes in the adjucation of disability claims that is refreshingly fact based rather than ideological in nature. While presented in a way that is entertaining at times, the little recognized historical facts referenced in the book raise disturbing implications regarding disability adjucation for those of us who are citizens.

As a former Social Security Administrative Law Judge who retired in 2003, I found "The Disability Debacle" to be both interesting and very informative. Although I retired before the period described in the book, the Social Security Administration sadly has had a long history of attempts to interfere with the independence of the ALJs. I only hope that I would have had the courage and integrity to act as did Judge Henry and others who chose to uphold their oath as judges during this period.

This is a smoothly done work. The author, a product of the older German school of history, has been expertly translated here. This book reads easily, and the reader quickly gets swept up into the interesting and insightful text. This a fairly straight-forward bio of Alexander. Those wanting to know his sexual escapades should consult more modern works. Here such is only hinted at.

The main stength of this book seems to be its comparative analysis. The author shows how Alexander evolved in his strategy of conquest. He is also skillful at showing how he managed his various titles as ruler, being Hegemon to the Greeks, and Divine King to the Asiatics. There is limited discussion of the great battles of Alexander, although reference is made to the Oblique Order which he developed from Epamiadas of Thebes. The early chapter concerning Philip also sheds light on his accomplishments and how they would influence his son.

The concluding chapters discuss the legacy of Alexander. There is also a good deal of how the Diodachi Succession wars developed, and how these various rulers spread Hellanism throughtout their empires. Alexander can be seen on many different levels. He is many things to different people. Here we find a pretty unbiased account, which is on the whole favorable toward his accomplishments and deeds. Readers more familar with recent bios may wish to consult this work to get a clear, concise and uncluttered account.

A good general introduction to Alexander.

I have read a number of books on Alexander the Great and finally decided to read Wilcken's biography on Alexander since it is cited in so many other works. While the book covers all the high points and is generally favorable in its treatment and view of Alexander, it fails to give any real detail about the man, his life or his military exploits. If you know little of Alexander you will find the highpoints here. If you are looking for something new, the only information that I had not seen before was the author's speculation about Alexander's future plans; and the author's discussion of the legacy of Alexander. There is an interesting discussion in the introduction about earlier Alexander biographies.

Simple to read, effects for life!

For those who always wondered methods on how to say hard and have multiple male orgasms, this book explains how and what you should do to get them. Simple text, interesting drawings. I actually pick up the book all the time and read a bit just to refresh my mind. I am really into the spiritual aspect with the tantra focus and this gave both. How to do it and how to do it even further with a more spiritual methods. Awesome!

A great overview on project management topics, methods and challenges

I found "Introduction to Software Project Management" by Adolfo Villafiorita more than a software project management 101. It provides an overview on all the main challenges that project managers will experience, explaining them and condensing information of how they have been tackled in different ways giving brief descriptions of methods, techniques and tools. I could see the whole spectrum of areas that a project manager needs to deal with, from a general project approach and project blueprint to execution control and basic human resources management. It is an introduction in the sense that it lacks in depth descriptions of the methods described, but the many references will allow you to dig only into the topics you need to dig into at whatever level. Although it mainly refers to software projects, many of the concepts described can be applied to projects beyond software development. Reading the book gave me the opportunity to stop and think critically at the projects I have worked to find critical aspects and how they could have been tackled differently. I also find it would be of great help when shaping project management courses.
I was pleased to find it easy to read even if it is written by an academic professor and you can see an academic style in some parts and it only requires a very basic scientific background.

Kenneth Hagin's book equips you in 10 easy steps on having your prayers heard and answered ! It is a quick reminder of our faith in God and the foundation of His Word which grants us peace and joy. Through discipline of the mind and flesh we learn to resist the enemy. Nothing is impossible with the Lord as your strength. Kenneth Hagin writes in an easy style. The book gives good Bible references which are expounded in detail. At the end of the book I finally understood what it meant to rest in the Lord. So many of us today in the working world are expected to be self-reliant and highly independent but having read this book I now know how to be God focused in everything. His Word is the foundation that is built on rock. Expect a miracle !

Healing is a gift. It can't be earned.

This book has many well-meaning points. However, even our faith is a gift. There isn't a formula to healing. I believe it's God's will to heal believers, but we can't think we can conjur up enough faith, or find the perfect formula. This book is based on the idea that you must have enough faith to be healed. Art Thomas has a better viewpoint on healing. He has a few things on Amazon. I just read this awesome article. Take the pressure off yourself to have some sort of perfect faith, and read this! It's so encouraging:

I was just impressed by the Lord to get this book. My eyes were opened up to the title because it just seemed that was were I was with my faith. Sense I have been reading it there has been many truths that the Lord has used to strengthen me on my journey with Him. A valued book in my library.

The wound healed by first intention, and passive motion began in four weeks time, resulting in a useful joint. Case X. Removal of Carpal Bones for Necrosis, Following Gunshot Wound of the Wrist.--A. W. W., male, age 30, was shot through the right wrist February 20th, the ball passing from within outwards. When seen on February 29th extensive necrosis of carpal bones had ensued. A single free incision was made over the dorsum of the wrist, extending along the center of the meta-carpal bone of the index finger (Langenbeck's). Through this opening the carpal bones were readily turned out. The bases of the meta-carpal bones, and the lower extremities of the radius and ulna were not excised. The wound healed slowly and passive movements of the fingers were performed at an early period after the operation. He was discharged from the hospital with a good result. Case XI. A must for STOTT Pilates Certification

If you are pursuing certification in STOTT Pilates, you must buy these flash cards. The muscle images on the written exam are directly from this pack. Even if you know your muscles, you need to know how they are depicted in these flash cards so you can instantly recognize them on the test. For instance, the deltoids are shown from a superior view. This can look totally foreign if you are not used to this view.

Wrong cards included

My daughter studied the daylights out of these for her test. She had a discussion with the teacher about an answer she "got wrong", she showed the teacher the flashcard. Turned out that the card was wrong. Teacher gave her half credit for that question. Oops. Just sayin'

not real "flash" cards if the picture and its information are on different pages

Be careful when buying these. Make sure you know these aren't separate cards, they're in a ring binder. However, the name and description of the muscle is on the page opposite the picture, which makes it difficult to separate out from the binder to study from and "self-quiz". It'd be much better if the information was on the same card as the picture, on the back of the card. Unless I got a defective pack or something.
