This is an excellent review as to how we devolved in our thinking

This is an excellent review as to how we devolved in our thinking, initially conceiving of God as being the dynamic active missionary God we find in Scripture, to the timeless and unmoved mover found in classical theology. R. T. Mullins is correct in saying "Divine timelessness has had a long run in Church history, but it is time to bury it and move on. We should not mourn its passing. It shall not be missed," (p.209). If you wish to look at the biblical, philosophical and practical implications of looking at God with a fresh perspective, then this book is for you. Rather than conceiving of God as non-temporal we need to re-conceptualize God as being supremely temporal, indeed its chief exemplification! This book is not just another nail but is instead a golden spike in the coffin of a non-biblical timeless God. I encourage all to read this book!

This is how scholarship should be done. Dr. Mullins' grasp of the subject matter is incredible, as is his research and documentation. He systematically examines the traditional doctrine of divine timelessness and all that it entails (simplicity, immutability, impassibility) and addresses, by various arguments, the problems that the traditional doctrine faces. Throughout the work Dr. Mullins also seems particularly concerned with actually arriving at a coherent conception of God, or at least the clearest conception that is possible to us humans. This leads him to follow the argument wherever it leads rather than - as is often the case - simply unquestionably accepting ancient doctrines which appear on close scrutiny to be unintelligible. For this reason the author gets my respect and admiration. This book is concerned with what is true, not with what some theologian at some point wrote about. Furthermore the author takes pains to show you why certain "traditional" notions simply cannot be logically compatible with Christianity (though the more history that is done the more obvious it is that almost any possible belief was at one time held in Christian history).

Interestingly, the author supposedly set out to defend divine timelessness, but his research lead him to disbelieve in the very thing he set out to accept. This is another mark of genuine and honest reflection as well as serious and unbiased thinking.

This book furthers the discussion of God's relation to time and creation more than any other work I know. It is much more metaphysically powerful than the popular books on the topic, and the author addresses head on the leading theories (and theorists) of divine timelessness today. In my view his arguments are decisive, and his handling of the topic in general superb. One simply cannot be well informed about the current timeless vs temporal debate without reading this book and poring over its contents.

I did, however, wish that more time was spent exploring the alternative to divine timelessness - in particular the notion of God's essential and accidental properties, and how this idea can be cashed out in terms of God's being prior to and subsequent to creation as well as how God currently experiences change while relating to every moment of present time. This lack does not take away from the devastating criticisms the author makes against timelessness, of course. And the author does mention a desire to address such issues in further work. Thus finishing the book feels a bit like having one's spoiled supper taken away with the promise of something new and fresh -- which is on the way. While we are no doubt saved from eating something rotten, we are still quite hungry! I await future writings both patiently and with a bit of a growl in my tummy.

About the Author
James Conolly holds the Canada Research Chair in Archaeology at Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario. His research interests include landscape archaeology, quantitative methods and the origins of early agriculture. He is co-editor (with Sue Colledge) of Early Neolithic Agriculture in South West Asia and Europe (forthcoming).

Mark Lake is a lecturer at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. His research interests include early prehistory and evolutionary archaeology. He is a contributor to Handbook of Archaeological Sciences (forthcoming) and a member of the editorial board of World Archaeology.

Good for folks that are just starting GIS

This book covers some fundamentals in GIS and archaeology. It goes from case study to case study, illustrating how someone could use GIS for their own sites. It's an okay read but for those of you who already know GIS (even at an introductory level), pass this book on as there is little you can learn from it.

Kitty Kelley usually does good research for her unauthorized biographies, but in this tome she focuses on Sinatra's life in questionable ways. Very little personal comments. J. Randy Taraborelli is a much better writer. Don't waste your money on this one.

Covers the material, but it's a thin book and not really designed to teach

First, be aware that this book is just 1/8" thick and 66 pages (of which maybe 50 pages are actual content). I mention that because there are books double this price point that contain 600+ pages of actual content. As value goes, the relative price for this book should be closer to $10 or less.

If you are new to this concept, you will still be confused after reading this. The author is not a good teacher, and the presentation style is very formal and technical. The diagrams are not really useful. You can definitely tell this was written by a highly technical person.

The examples are written in PHP. If you use a different language (VS C# or VB), you'll need to translate it on your own.

Most of the information in this book can be found online in the exact same technical format.

I already knew some things about OAuth and just needed a refreshed, so I got what I needed from it. But a "Getting Started" book should be a lot clearer and easier for anyone (with NO experience in the topic) to read and pick up the concepts quickly. This book fails in that regard.

Good, concise introduction to OAuth 2.0

I've been looking for an OAuth 2.0 book for a while. The specification is still being developed while, at the same time, big Internet players like Google, Facebook, Yahoo, or Twitter are already using some flavor of it. Although as a developer you'll eventually rely on a library to abstract most of the complexity, you still want to understand the big picture. And because OAuth 2.0 is still an ongoing process, the situation is a bit of a mess right now where each authorization server is implementing different revisions with subtle differences.

This is where this book comes in. In about 60-70 pages it clarifies the current situation. It starts providing a historical introduction to the protocol and how it's related with initiatives pre-OAuth 1.0 and with OAuth 1.0 itself (removal of proprietary technologies, improved security). You'll learn the rationale behind this revision (new client profiles in particular) and some of the key features still under discussion. In particular "signatures", where Eran Hammer, the protocol editor, is openly opposed to not including them (and after reading his thoughts, I think he's right).

One chapter I specially loved is the one dedicated to OpenID Connect, the next evolution of OpenId. I've seen developers confused about the differences between OAuth (authorization) and OpenID (authentication) and this book differentiates them well. Interestingly, although they still keep different purposes, the new OpenID Connect will now be developed on top of OAuth-which makes sense, as you'll find out in the book.

The code accompanying the text is just fine. You'll see some actual implementations of the workflow in PHP and JavaScript that are easy to read (even a Google App Engine Python at the end - which I appreciate). I especially liked that it includes JSON responses where you can actually see the typical parameters to better understand the information you're exchanging (and prepare your data models). Chapter 6 is dedicated to the workflow in native apps for mobile devices. There is no code in this part, but it has enough information to point you on the right direction.

Where the book falls short in my opinion (and the reason for losing one star) is in providing better guidance for developers willing to be authorization servers and not just clients of the protocol. OAuth 2.0 will only be successful if all API providers are able to implement it (big and small) and that's where this book could have done a better job. For example, recommending some web frameworks capable of OAuth 2.0 in Chapter 8 ("Tools and Libraries").

"Getting Started with OAuth 2.0" by Ryan Boyd is an easy read that answers right questions (like what's new in 2.0? which are the new client profiles? when should I use each one? what do I do if the access token expires or gets revoked?) and then can also be used as a simple reference of the workflows when you're actually implementing your app.

Fair introduction to OAuth 2.0

Getting Started with OAuth 2.0 by Ryan Boyd is a small book that provides a fair introduction to OAuth 2.0. I think it does a great job at explaining the fundamentals and has a good structure in covering the various applications flows: server-side, client-side, resource owner password, and client credentials. However, even though it's a short book, I find it a bit too verbose for the material covered. It also tries to be helpful in providing tips, recommendations, and the idiosyncrasies of Google's and Facebook's implementations, all scattered throughout the text, which unfortunately is a distraction.

I'd recommend this book if you are new to OAuth and want to read it on a flight. Otherwise, there are online resources that are just as useful. For example, Google's Using OAuth 2.0 to Access Google APIs seems to cover almost as much content as this book.

An okay book. For those not well-read on subjects like these, you'll pretty much be lost on what to do with this without guidance from a more experienced friend (or the Internet). I guess my issue is more with the title than the content. I think this book might have been better off titled something like 'Demon Summoning References' or just 'Demons.' It just lists out demon names and natures, but simply states to use your preferred method of summoning, which you'll be lost on if you don't know anything about it. Only recommend if you know what you're doing, or if you have reliable instructions to go with it.
